my thoughts are with Hilary and family at this sad time. I have many memories of time spent working with Roger, and fun times out on Stubble and Bluey.

I became acquainted with Professor Roger Motte, as he then was, in 1993 when he acted as an adviser to the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary during the criminal enquiry into the sinking of the MFV Pescado PH409.
We became firm friends and as a Churchill Fellow himself he introduced me to the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust and I too was awarded a Fellowship. Together we ran the South West Association of Churchill Fellows for many years.
Roger was a mariner at heart and I joined him and his friend Alan (Badger) Yates on his boat Stubble and later Bluey with voyages locally and to Falmouth, Guernsey. We often moored up in the River Yealm.
Roger was an expert wood turner and could turn his hand to anything electrical or mechanical.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
My condolences to his wife Hilary and the family.
